How Does Ductless Work?

Honestly, terrific! Daikin ductless heating and cooling systems are customizable to fit any need. Single room applications or multi-zone systems? You got it. Heating and cooling, or just cooling? No problem! Check out the quiet and efficient way to create comfort in any Philadelphia home.

How Does Ductless Heating and Cooling Work?

Ductless heating and cooling mini splits work by pumping coolant, or heated refrigerant back and forth between a heat pump outside and air handlers in the rooms you’re treating.

That refrigerant either pumps heat into the air handler in the winter. Or, it transports heat out of the room as part of the air conditioning in the summer.

This way, you get the heating or cooling you want without requiring ductwork to push forced air all throughout the house.

Depending on what you need, you can go with a 1:1 setup with a single indoor unit in a problem room connected to a heat pump outside. Or, add up to nine air air handlers to a single heat pump to treat your entire home.

Parts of a Mini Split

Indoor Air Handler

These units circulate air throughout your home. They also handle the dehumidification part of the air conditioning process. High-wall units like the one here are the most common. Or, choose from low-wall units near the floor or recessed cassettes that fit flush against the ceiling.

Outdoor Heat Pump

The heat pump transfers warmth in or out of your home, depending on the season. Each air handler connects to this component. They’re quieter and smaller than conventional AC condensers. Depending on the model, heat pumps provide heat in sub-zero cold and cool your home in triple-digit temperatures.

Line Sets

Line sets run between the air handlers and heat pump. They contain a line transporting the coolant in a closed loop between the indoor and outdoor components. The set includes power cables and a condensate drain that removes moisture from dehumidification

INVERTER Technology

Ductless heating and cooling doesn’t cycle on and off like traditional forced-air heat and central air conditioning. Instead, it uses INVERTER technology to work at variable speeds depending on your exact needs.

Sensors detect any hot or cold spots in a room. Then, specialized fans direct the treated air to the exact spots that need it.

The temperature stays constant instead of swinging up and down by a few degrees all the time. It’s more comfortable, quieter, and saves your money.
